IRANET was founded in 1993 in order to develop and provide the requirements of IPM's scientists.

To provide Internet for Iranian academic, IPM / IRANET joined EARN (European Academic & Research Network) via Vienna University in 1993. In 1995, EARN merged with RARE (Réseaux Associés pour la Recherche Européenne) to form TERENA (Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association).

Today, after years of hard work, IRANET has become one of the safest internet provider for universities, institutes, research centers and large organizations.
